Family Megalopidae – Tarpons; Scientific name: Megalops cyprinoides; Common name: Oxeye Herring – Distribution in Australia: a saltwater/freshwater fish found in estuaries and lower reaches of rivers and streams between Pilbara Region of Western Australia through near costal parts of the Northern Territory, Queensland and New South Wales – Also inhabiting great expanse of similar habitats between East Africa and Tahiti.
