Description
Western Australia - south west - Yalgorup National Park - Lake Clifton Thrombolites are very rare, rock-like structures built by living microorganisms, mainly cyanobacteria, at or very near the water surface. Over very long time these Thrombilite-building microorganisms build these mounds from calcium carbonate absorbed during photosynthesis from the rich water of this lake. Lake Clifton Thrombolites are believed to be over 2 000 years old.
