Common name: Fan-tailed Cuckoo – Consuming cuckoos’ staple prey, extremely hairy caterpillar that most other birds avoid - Distribution in Australia: south-western Western Australia north to Geraldton and east to western edge of the Nullarbor Plain; in eastern Australia from Cape York Peninsula in the north-east through eastern Queensland, eastern and southern New South Wales, through Victoria to York Peninsula in southern-central South Australia and throughout Tasmania - Distribution outside Australia: other subspecies occur in Papua and New Guinea highlands, Fiji, Vanuatu, Loyalty Islands and New Caledonia.
