Order Ciconiiformes; Family Ardeidae (Herons & Egrets); Scientific name: Egretta sacra; Formerly: Ardea sacra; Common name: Reef Heron; Alternative common name: Eastern Reef Egret, or Reef-egret - Distribution in Australia: Circum Australia found on reefs, beaches, rocky shores and offshore islands, although uncommon on the southern coast east of Esperance and around Tasmania - Distribution outside Australia: New Zealand, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Philippines, and coastal Eastern Asia north to Japan.
