Order Charadriiformes; Family Sternidae (Terns); Formerly in Family Laridae (Gulls & Terns); Scientific name: Sterna dougallii; Subspecies: gracilis; Common name: Roseate Tern – Distribution in Australia: sea distributed along shores and beaches of Western Australia south to Busselton; the Northern Territory, Queensland and northernmost part of north-eastern New South Wales; Subspecies gracilis breeds on offshore islands of Western Australia and Queensland - Distribution outside Australia: Subspecies gracilis occurs also on the Moluccas; other subspecies are found in Americas, Africa, South-east Asia and the Middle East.
