Common name: Sacred Kingfisher - Distribution in Australia: Present in all mainland states and Tasmania, Lord Howe and Norfolk Islands; absent in the arid centre - Distribution outside Australia: Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, islands of the Western Pacific including Solomon Islands and New Caledonia, also throughout New Zealand.
