Order Charadriiformes; Family Sternidae (Terns); Formerly in Family Laridae (Gulls & Terns); Scientific name: Sterna anaetheus;Common name: Bridled Tern – Nuptial display - Distribution in Australia: shores and beaches of western, northern and north-eastern Australia between Cape Leeuwin in Western Australia north then east through the Northern Territory to Cape York Peninsula then south to Rockhampton in central eastern Queensland; also in south-eastern South Australia - Distribution outside Australia: Central America, western Africa, Madagascar, Middle East, southern Asia, through Indian Ocean to western and central Pacific.
