Order Charadriiformes; Family Recurvirostridae (Stilts & Avocets); Scientific name: Recurvirostra novaehollandiae; Common name: Red-necked Avocet; Alternative common name: Australian Avocet – Feeding - Distribution in Australia: An Australian endemic bird found in all mainland states; though more common in the south and the west of the country; sporadically in the north and the east.  An occasional visitor to north Tasmania.
