Family Synbranchidae – Swamp-eels; Scientific name: Monopterus albus; Common name: Belut; Alternative common name: Belut Eel – Distribution in Australia: tropical eel inhabiting mainly swamps in north-eastern Queensland between Daintree River in the north and Townsville in the south– Also widespread in eastern Asia between Japan and Malaysia.
