Order Diptera; Suborder Brachycera; Family Nemestrinidae (Tangle-veined Flies); Provisional scientific name: Trichophthalma sp. aff. primitiva;

 

Common name: Tangle-veined Fly; Alternative common name: Nemestrinid Fly – Sleeping at night - Distribution in Australia: Trichophthalma primitiva is known to occur only in eastern New South Wales and south-eastern Queensland.  This Trichophthalma sp. aff. primitiva seems to be almost identical and may actually be the same species, but it was photographed in Western Australia where its occurrence has not been verified – Photographed: in August in East Yuna Nature Reserve north-west of Mullewa.
