Feral Horse

Order Perissodactyla; Family Equidae; Scientific name: Equus caballus; Common name: Feral Horse; Alternative common names: Brumby or Horse - Distribution in Australia: there are scattered populations of Feral Horses in all mainland states  - Note: this is an introduced pest species in Australia; it has been introduced deliberately as a farm and race animal with escaped animals giving rise to the current feral population of several million animals; as early pastoral properties were not fenced off, horses escaped frequently and feral populations of horses established rapidly in the early 19^th century.
