Order Artiodactyla; Family Suidae; Scientific name: Sus scrofa; Common name: Feral Pig; Alternative common name: Pig - Distribution in Australia: widely distributed in all mainland states and on some offshore islands - Note: this is an introduced pest species in Australia; it has been introduced deliberately as a farm animal with escapees and animals released deliberately by hunters giving rise to the current feral population of several million animals established on some 40% of the mainland.
