Order Artiodactyla; Family Camelidae; Scientific name: Camelus dromedarius; Common name: One Humped Camel; Alternative common names: Feral Camel or Dromedary -  Distribution in Australia: widely distributed throughout deserts and semi-arid areas of western and central Australia from the Pilbara coast in Western Australia to the Nullarbor coast in South Australia, through southern half of the Northern Territory to Simpson Desert in western Queensland; Note: this is an introduced pest species in Australia; it has been introduced deliberately as a beast of burden with unwanted, released camels giving rise to the current feral population.
