Order Squamata; Suborder Serpentes; Family Pythonidae (Pythons); Formerly in Family Boidae; Scientific name: Aspidites melanocephalus; Common name: Black-headed Python - Distribution in Australia: Australian endemic snake found in northern Western Australia south to Exmouth Peninsula, northern two thirds of the Northern Territory and throughout Queensland apart from the extreme south.
